Holiday Campaign 2022

“This was our first-ever fundraiser — before Wako Ayudando was even a school club, it was a Christmas campaign run by Annabella and Ariela Alperstein, together with family and friends.

We teamed up with Ayudando Abrigando, a non-profit founded and run by high school students in Peru that collects plastic bottles and turns them into blankets, socks, and ponchos for families in need. The group was founded by friends of ours from school in Peru, and we wanted to find a way to help from Canada.

Its incredible how much you can help with just a $10 dollar donation

Our goal was simple: help families in Peru celebrate Christmas with warmth and a proper holiday breakfast. We asked for a $10 donation to fund one blanket, or $20 to cover a blanket, a small gift, and a traditional Peruvian Christmas breakfast — hot chocolate and panetón — for a family.

We reached out to our community, and the response was better than we could have imagined. That campaign became the spark for what Wako Ayudando is today: a full school pod at St. George’s, still raising money for Ayudando Abrigando, still believing that a small group of people who care can make a real difference.”

The community is located South from Lima and we were able to bring many bags with blankets and also because it was so close to christmas we brought the typical “paneton” a typical cake served only during christmas, juice, milk.

We distributed 270 blankets and gift bags to families
